Hinds Community College Hinds Community College

Hinds Community College was founded in 1917 and is the largest of Mississippi’s 15 public community colleges. Hinds serves approximately 32,000 students in academic, career/technical, workforce, secondary and adult education programs each year. With six locations, the college draws students from more than 70 Mississippi counties and ranks as the fourth largest institution of higher learning in the state.

The new career training/vocational education facility on the Vicksburg campus in Warren County, Mississippi offers 10,000 square feet of career and technical classrooms that are being utilized by current Hinds students, as well as students involved in secondary programs from the Vicksburg-Warren County School District. The building also has 12,000 square feet of “flex” lab space for use in post-secondary labs and workforce training. There is an additional multipurpose room for community meetings that will seat up to 100 people.

Project Impact

  • The college utilizes the new and existing facilities, along with its expertise, to deliver a quality educational experience and help alleviate academic and non-academic barriers to successful completion for students
  • The full resources of the college, including student services, tutoring, writing labs, counseling, and special programs such as SNAP and MI-BES, are available to all students
  • This project focuses on producing future workforce participants in the community by implementing specific training and programs intended to close the “middle-skill” gap that exists in rural areas
